2nd Birthday Cake

My nephew turned 2 this past week and I was recruited to make his cake for his party.

He is really into Cars right now. Really into Cars, so only a Lightning McQueen Cake would do. I thought about making one that was car shaped, but found this really cool pan from Wilton.

It is their “Countless Celebrations” pan that comes with inserts to make letter and numbers. it is pretty awesome. One box cake mix does the trick

So I made the 2 shape and crumb coated it and got started on my coloured frosting.

I made my frosting, black, white and red. I forgot how much colouring you needed to make red-red frosting.

I only got to a nice fuchsia, before I ran out and had to call my neighbour, who also is quite the cake maker, for reinforcements. She was also out of red as it does take a lot. So after a quick trip to the party store, i was off to the races (see what I did there?)

Finally I added some Cars figures for decoration. He was thrilled.
